Men

INA -- Lincoln College shot a blistering 58 percent (29-50) in downing Rend Lake here Saturday in the Rend Lake Classic, 74-70. The victory gives the Lynx a 3-2 record, while Rend Lake is 2-2.

Jeff Carlson led a balanced Lincoln College attack with 16 points, followed by Rodney Williams with 14 and Aaron Williams with 12. The Lynx had a 33-27 rebounding edge in the contest, with Rueben Trotter leading the way with seven boards. Tony Gulley contributed to the attack with seven assists in the contest.

Lincoln College made 16 of 26 field goals in the first half (61.5 percent) as they took a 38-32 halftime lead. The Lynx cooled off a little in the second half as they connected at a 54 percent rate. Rend Lake shot 49 percent from the floor and was led by David Inabnit with 16 points.

Women

CENTRALIA -- A poor first half was too much for Lincoln College to overcome, as they dropped a 52-48 decision to Southwestern Illinois Community College in women's basketball action here Saturday at the Kaskaskia Classic.   

The Lynx, 1-2, were able to manage just 14 first-half points, while Southwestern was tossing in 29 to take a comfortable lead to the locker room. Lincoln College rebounded in the second half and outscored the winners 34-23 but was unable to overcome the deficit.

Kanisha Pettis, with nine points, was top gun for the Lynx. Brittany Ingram and Becky Spears each added eight points.

Southwestern could have won by a larger margin had they made free throws, as the winners connected on just 11 of 25 tries.

On Sunday afternoon Kaskaskia handed the Lynx a 68-48 loss. With the setback, Lincoln College falls to 1-3 for the season.

Nicole White, with 11 points, was the lone LC player to reach double figures. Kaskaskia was led by Foppe, who hit five 3-pointers for her 15 points.

Kaskaskia jumped out to an early 21-6 lead in the first 10 minutes of action, and the hosts maintained a 35-23 lead at halftime. The Lady Lynx were limited to 14 field goals, while the winners connected 26 times from the floor.
