Grigsby
one of 16 Buchanan finalists

PHILADELPHIA,
Pa. -- Illinois State's Boomer Grigsby is one of 16 finalists as the
race for the top defensive player in I-AA college football took a
final step on Monday as ballots for the 2003 Buck Buchanan Award
were mailed to all voters.

The ballots, which were sent to
media and I-AA sports information directors selected for the voting
process, will be due via fax by Wednesday (Nov. 26). The winner of
the Buck Buchanan Award will be invited to attend the presentation
of the awards, with the winner of that award not announced until the
event. The 17th annual I-AA College Football Awards will be Dec. 18
in Chattanooga, Tenn., on the eve of the NCAA I-AA national
championship.
For the second straight season
Grigsby led the nation in solo tackles. The junior from Canton,
Ill., racked up 179 tackles on the season, which ranks second in the
country, and 109 solo stops. The reigning Gateway Football
Conference Defensive Player of the Year posted 110 tackles against
conference opponents, with double-digit tackle performances in all
seven league games.

Grigsby had a pair of 21-tackle
games against Northern Iowa at Hancock Stadium and at Big Ten
Conference opponent Illinois. He also added 12 tackles for loss,
along with three quarterback sacks.
The Redbird linebacker finished
third in the voting last season and was the top returning
vote-getter in 2003.
