Annual student-led prayer rally
[SEPT. 16, 2003]
SYATP (www.syatp.com)
is student-initiated, student-organized and student-led. That means
this is all about students meeting at their school flagpole to pray
-- for their school, friends, teachers, government and nation. This
is not a demonstration, political rally or a stand for or against
anything.

Local students, including those from
grade schools, junior high and high schools, along with colleges,
are encouraged to participate in this annual event, held on the
third Wednesday of September each year.
Sept. 17 at 7 a.m. is the time when
most groups will be meeting around a school flagpole and praying
together.
According to youth minister JT
Thomason, "Mount Pulaski had 50 kids of all ages participate in last
year's SYATP. We would like to see 75 kids this year." Pulaski
students are meeting at both the grade school and the high school
again this year. Following the meeting, the First Christian Church
is again hosting a breakfast for all participants from 7:30 to 8
a.m.

Local church youth groups are
encouraging new students to attend, as well as parents and even
teachers.
"Last year,
over 100 students participated at the Lincoln Community High
School," stated Brian Medaris, director of student ministries at
Jefferson Street Christian Church in Lincoln. "We have given out
information on the event, including flyers, posters and bracelets,
but it is up to the students."
