"Blood Drop," the mascot for the Central Illinois Community Blood Centers poses for a picture with Dennis Clemons of Lincoln immediately after giving Clemmons the keys to a 2015 Jeep Patriot. Clemons won the vehicle because he was automatically entered into a drawing when he gave blood to the CICBC at the Springfield CICBC Center. Clemons has been donating blood on a regular basis at the CICBC for the past 25 years.

During the Logan County Board's meetings this month lengthy discussions took place on how to allocate funds that would go toward community college education. The funds were to come to the county once electrical production has begun at the Relight/Meridien Wind Farm. Heartland Community College was invited to share in the decision process. HCC Foundation Executive Director Chris Downing (left) and Heartland Community College Vice President for Learning and Student Success Rick Pearce (right) provided information about the scholarship process, scholarship recipients, the need for facility expansion, and new programs in Logan County. Ultimately, it was determined at the advice of Logan County State's Attorney Jonathan Wright, that the Logan County Board should remove itself from involvement with the donations. A letter would be sent to Meridien; Lincoln Land Community College and Heartland Community College.
