LDN -- Top Stories

On Friday two ribbons cuts took place in Lincoln. The first was held at the Mill on Route 66 Museum. Mayor Seth Goodman read a resolution passed by the city marking this weekend as Route 66 Weekend. Michelle Ramlow spoke on behalf of the Route 66 Garage Sales and Geoff Ladd with the Route 66 Heritage Foundation spoke about the Mill and its 90th anniversary. Morgan Gleason was on hand to talk about tourism and Lincoln Ward One Alderman Tracy Welch announce that the city has formed a Route 66 Centennial Commission to prepare for the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road in 2026. Lincoln is the first "municipal government" in the nation to form such a commission. Lisa and Jim Drew were also on hand, and invited all those in attendance to come to Sorrento's Pizza at 4 p.m. on Friday evening as the family owned, multi-generation eatery celebrates its 50th year in Lincoln.

Guests gathered for another ribbon cutting ceremony at Sorrento's. Lisa Drew’s late husband Sam Curcuru started the business with his parents. Drew spoke during the cutting, as did other members of the family who are a part of the four-generations involved in the business.

LDN will have additional coverage from both cuts early next week.
