LDN -- Top Stories

The Cloverdale 4-H Club of Logan County recently received a $500 Community Improvement Grant from Farm Credit Illinois. The club was one of only 50 4-H Clubs and FFA organizations to receive the Illinois grant.

Club members will use the grant funds to plant milkweed at Creekside Outdoor Center for Environmental Education as part of their effort to sustain and grow the monarch population.

Front row (L-R): 4-H members Sarah Starasta, Jaydon Miller, Stephen Starasta, and Blaine Hellman with Farm Credit Illinois. Back Row: club leader Leslie Starasta, 4-H members Sarai Jackson, Ivy Sandel, David Morrow, Roux Starr and Kristy Morrow.

The community of Mount Pulaski came together Friday evening on the Historic Mount Pulaski Courthouse Square for the kick-off of this year's Second Friday Market. The Market will be held the second Friday of each month throughout the summer.

Among the interesting booths and tents around the square Friday evening was a table set up by Shaun Tyson with helper Kaden Mott promoting a new venture for the town. Slated to open next year will be a community-owned grocery and meat market. The store will be smaller scale than other grocery chains but will still be able to answer the needs of the community for a local source for food products. The Mount Pulaski grocery store closed a few years back and since then the community has had no place close-by to purchase a complete line of grocery products.
