Holiday Happenings
workshop scheduled
November and December are hectic months for everyone. The time slips by
with many tasks to complete. Holiday shopping, holiday plant care and
holiday cooking are all on our minds.
To help keep the holiday frenzy at a
minimum, the University of Illinois Extension, Logan County Unit, is
offering a workshop, "Holiday Happenings," from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Nov.
14 at the Postville Road office in Lincoln.
David Robson, horticulture educator, will
speak on holiday plant care and Christmas tree safety and care.
Highlights will include poinsettia, Christmas cactus, amaryllis and
fresh arrangement and greenery care, as well as answering questions on
other indoor plants.
"Healthy Holidays" will be the topic of the
foods and nutrition presentation given by Jananne Finck, nutrition and
wellness educator. Finck will give tips on how to cut the sugar, fat and
calories from holiday favorites and will demonstrate some of her
favorite recipes. She will also answer questions on how to keep holiday
foods safe and healthy.
Ellen Burton, consumer and family economic
educator, will provide participants with unique and practical gift ideas
for those who have almost everything. All participants will receive a
resource list of gift costs and ideas. The program will also feature
appliances that can make everyday tasks easier and safer for everyone.
Tips for shopping for electrical appliances will be included. Great
ideas will be provided for the late-season shoppers. Additionally,
program participants will have the opportunity to participate in a gift
comparison activity.
After the presentations, participants will
sample foods prepared, and door prizes will be awarded to lucky
registrants.
The cost for the
program is $5 per person. Preregistration is required. To preregister,
and also if you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this
program, call the Logan County Extension office at (217) 732-8289 by
Nov. 8.
