[DEC. 9, 2003]  URBANA -- Questions ranging from travel conditions to care of a poinsettia plant can be answered 24 hours a day, thanks to two University of Illinois Extension websites.

"These two sites contain just about everything you need to know about winter storms and the care of poinsettias," said Jane Scherer, U of I Extension urban programs specialist.

The sites -- the Winter Storm Resource Center and the Poinsettia Pages -- are located on Extension's Urban Programs Resource Network at http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu.

"The winter storm site is located at http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/winter/ and has things everybody needs to know at this time of the year," said Scherer. "You can find current information on the weather, airport conditions, the Illinois forecast by counties and a Doppler radar image.

"There is also information about winter driving conditions. You can also find information on dealing with frozen pipes, ice dams and snow removal."

The Poinsettia Pages are at http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/poinsettia/.

"If you have a poinsettia plant and aren't sure how to take care of it or how to get it to reflower or have any of a number of questions about the plant's history and safety, this site can provide answers," said Scherer.
