About The Game: Tonight’s game is a return game from last
year’s season opener at Redbird Arena. Last season the Aggies
claimed a 68-53 win on way to their third NCAA appearance in the
last four years.
Series History: This is the fourth meeting between the two
schools with Illinois State leading the series 2-1. The Redbirds
claimed the only meeting in Logan with a 93-87 overtime win in the
first round of the 1995 National Invitation Tournament. Last
Time They Met: Trey Guidry led Illinois State with 20 points,
including six three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough as the Utah State
Aggies spoiled the Redbirds’ season opener, 68-53, at Redbird Arena
last season. Vince Greene was the only other Illinois State player
to score in double figures with 10, while Marcus Arnold turned in
nine points.
The ‘Birds shot only 39 percent from the field and made only one of
their eight (.125) free-throw attempts. Desmond Penigar led Utah
State with 22 points, going 4-for-4 from three-point range. Point
guard Mark Brown scored 19 points for the Aggies.
