| The scholarship competition is
sponsored by the Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation on behalf of
the Dwight and Betty Zimmerman estate. The Zimmermans, from San
Jose, were longtime supporters of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
They established the scholarship fund in 1995 to support local youth
who plan careers in service to the health of others. Scholarship applicants must be a
current student at Lincoln College or a graduating senior from
Lincoln Community High School, Mount Pulaski High School, Olympia
High School, Hartsburg-Emden High School, Delavan Community High
School or Illini Central High School. Preference is given to
students who are from Logan or eastern Mason counties, and those who
are preparing for a career in nursing. Completed application packets, which
include a four-page application, essay, transcript, letter of
acceptance into college degree program and two letters of
recommendation, are due to Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation on
April 1. The selection committee is most interested in why the
student has chosen a career in health care and hopes to see that
            reflected throughout the application packet.
