On
a beautiful Friday afternoon, citizens of Elkhart
celebrated the arrival of their Route 66 Scenic
Byway landmark. The Village of Elkhart was once the
spot where world famous child actress Shirley Temple
stopped for lunch. She was well received on that day
way back when, and this week she was once again well
received, as the wayside signage and silhouette
statue was dedicated with a ribbon cut by Mayor Lyle
Fout.
Pictured left to right are Bill Kelly of the
Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byways, Peggy Lee, village
board member, Bob Albert representing the
Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce, and
Elkhart Mayor Lyle Fout. LDN will have more coverage
on this event in a future edition.
