The
days are winding down in the month of October. In an effort to get
all the Pink shirt pictures in by the end of the month, today's
collection will feature ten local businesses or organizations.
Thanks so much to Beck's, Comfort Inn & Suites, Eaton (with a
special third shift picture added), The Hampton Inn, New Holland
Bank, Pizza Hut, S & S Flooring, Sugar Creek Orthodontics and Timber
Creek Village for sharing your pink!
Take a look at the second Eaton picture. The staff at Eaton had
special shirts made for their picture, as did many of the local
businesses. The back of their shirts say "powered by pink."
That is a good thought, and we would add to it that pink is
empowering because it raises awareness for a disease that hits
hundreds of thousands of women every year. We hope that showing
support for breast cancer warriors through the wearing of the pink
does empower them. May it encourage them to fight harder, be more
hopeful for their cure. Most of all, may they feel the love and
support of hundreds of people right here in their home community.

On
Monday evening, October 14th, the Logan County 4-H organizations
hosted an international night at the Logan County Extension office
in Lincoln. The night included several area 4-H clubs featuring
foods and information about one specific country. Each group chose a
country and prepared foods that are typically part of the daily menu
in that region. The evening included guest speaker and 4-H member
Grace Lessen who shared her story about a visit to Costa Rica.
Lessen spent time in Costa Rica on a student exchange trip. She
learned much about the culture and traditions, as well as the foods
of the area.
Left to right are Logan County 4-H Program Coordinator Amy Hyde,
Lessen, and University of Illinois Extension Coordinator for Logan,
Mason, and Sangamon Counties Carrisa Davis.
