Cut
fiber optic disrupts Lincoln Internet service.
Late Monday morning a trencher laying new
cable north of McLean cut operating fiber optic
line that feeds Internet to the Lincoln area. In the
forefront a crew continues to lay cable for Mediacom, while just hundreds
of yards north, a repair crew for Frontier completes repairs to the
operational spliced fiber optic line. Two breaks had been located and
repaired by midmorning on Tuesday. By late afternoon internet services
appeared to be coming back slowly. By this morning, it appears all is
well once again.

Police
tape surrounds the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago on Tuesday. Two convicted bank robbers used a knotted rope or bed sheets to
escape from a federal prison window high above downtown Chicago early
Tuesday, a week after one of them made a courtroom vow of retribution to a
federal judge. The escape occurred sometime between 5 and 8:45 a.m.,
when the inmates were discovered missing, Chicago Police Sgt. Mark Lazarro
said. Hours later, what appeared to be a rope, knotted at six-foot
intervals, could be seen dangling into an alley from a window approximately 20 stories above the ground.

In this image made from video, NBC chief foreign
correspondent Richard Engel, right, shakes hands with an
unidentified person in Cilvegozu, Turkey, on Tuesday after
crossing back into the country after five days of captivity
inside Syria. He and several others were freed unharmed following a firefight at a
checkpoint. Engel told the Turkish news agency Anadolu that he and his colleagues are "very happy to be out"
and they are "very tired."

Two
Lincoln High School wrestlers won their first championship matches at the most
recent tournament. Conner Schmidt and Matthew Brewer have worked hard during the
season in order to earn champion status. Coach Brad Gardner is proud of both
wrestlers and expects them to continue on their winning streak.
Due to the technical issues on Tuesday, we were unable to post
the photo of these two fine young athletes. We don't want to sell them
short in their achievements, so we've added their picture to today's issue and a
link to their story so that you can check it out once again.
