The Wednesday, October 19th pink shirt picture features our good friends at the Deep Roots Bakery and Cafe’.

Thinking about roots leads to thinking about being grounded and secure. When one is battling breast cancer, those feelings may be hard to find. Sometimes, a warrior needs someone to talk to who is not involved in the battle with her. That is where the American Cancer Society can help. Through the ACS website, warriors can register and be connected with a current breast cancer survivor. That survivor volunteers to share and listen. They have the advantage over others in the patient’s network, perhaps because they have “been there; done that” when members of the warrior team may not.

Patients can speak one-on-one with the survivor about topics such as coping with treatment, side effects, talking with friends and family, working during treatment, and more. Volunteers do not provide medical advice.

If you or a loved one needs the stability and support that friends and family can’t give, check out the ACS “Reach to Recovery” program. To get started, visit this link:

There will be a lot of activities going on this weekend, starting on Friday with two ribbon cuts.

The first will be at 9 a.m. on October 21st, at the new offices of Lincoln Daily News. The community is invited to join Karen Hargis and Nila Smith as they celebrate the new location at 520 Broadway Street in Lincoln. There will be a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. and an open house from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

At 4 p.m. on Friday, please join the LDN ribbon cutters in welcoming Prairie Land Title to the community. Jamie Vaughn and her staff will snip the ribbon at 507 Pulaski Street at 4 p.m. with an open house to follow.

A third ribbon cut will be held on Saturday at the Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society in Lincoln. Having recovered from smoke damage from a neighboring fire earlier this year, the LCG&HS will host a grand reopening at 114 North Chicago Street. The ribbon cutting will be held at 1:45 p.m., with an open house starting at 2 p.m.
