The ISU Redbirds
(1-0) got the season off the way you'd like to see your team start
by leading for almost the entire contest. New coach Porter Moser
promised that ISU would be improved and exciting to watch. In this
first game of the season, he delivered an 87-70 win.

Trey Guidry came flying off the bench
to pour in 24 points, and Marcus Arnold was a beast in the paint,
finishing with 21 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Wisconsin
transfer Neil Plank had 17 points and gathered in 10 stray shots.
Greg Dilligard also looked good in spots.
However, it was Lincoln's
Gregg Alexander
who set the tone for this game. His defensive pressure from start to
finish got his teammates fired up. During free throws he was
huddling them up, trying to motivate them to contain the high-flying
Rattlers. He was also a big part of the press-breaker for the
'Birds. Even though Florida A&M's press did produce some turnovers,
Alexander was key in breaking the time line countless times and
helping ISU set up their offense.

It was a very funky game in regard to
how it was officiated, but players and coaches must respond and not
react to that. ISU was able to keep its composure and deliver a
first victory to Porter Moser.
ISU visits
Northern Illinois in its next contest.
