Beginning early next week, South Kickapoo will be closed at the railroad viaduct while work is being done on that overpass. According to the signage, the street may be closed for the next two weeks.

This year the hanging baskets around the downtown square have been particularly beautiful.  With fall on the way, it won't be long before all these wonderful blooms are gone, so when you're downtown this weekend, take a moment to appreciate all the baskets.

This image of an 1890 portrait in oil on canvas shows Edwin Booth as painted by John Singer Sargent. Booth was a renowned 19th-century actor and brother of President Abraham Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas, announced the acquisition of the painting Friday.
